Tryouts are scheduled for June 14-16, 2022 at Steed Park. Details for each division are listed below.
General Extra Information
The Extra Program is a tryout based program for players desiring a more competitive soccer experience. Extra teams play other AYSO Extra teams from surrounding areas.
Extra games are on weeknights:
14U boys and girls: Monday nights and an occasional Saturday evening
17U coed: Tuesday nights and an occasional Friday or Saturday evening
10U boys and girls: Wednesday nights and an occasional Saturday evening
12U boys and girls: Thursday nights and an occasional Saturday evening
The practice times and locations of Extra teams will be decided by the coach.
Some Extra coaches choose to participate in indoor soccer or futsal leagues over the winter break. This is optional and is not included in the registration fee.
In order for a player to be accepted onto an Extra team, his or her parents will agree to the following rules:
Parents will paint fields. (This is not the job of coaches or assistant coaches.)
Parents will put up and take down nets. (This in not the job of coaches or assistant coaches.)
Parents will always sit left of the center line at games, and always on the correct side of the field as dictated by the coach.
Parents will not make comments to or about the referee at any time, even if the referee is completely wrong.
Parents will not bring dogs to the field at any time, nor will they allow any other spectators associated with their player to bring a dog.
Cost of Extra
There is no cost to tryout for the Extra teams. Anyone who has a desire to play is invited to the tryouts. Please pre-register for the try-out at ayso1533.org. This is important because it allows us to email important tryout information and last minute changes to the people who need to know (without spamming the entire region). It is also how we'll contact you after tryouts to let you know whether or not your player made the team.
If you are invited to be on the Extra team, you will log into your account at ayso1533.org and accept your position on the team. You will then be prompted to pay the $190 registration fee. This fee includes two complete uniform sets and the referee fees for the fall and spring season.
Extra players are encouraged to also play on a Core team. There is no additional charge to play on a Core team. If your player wants to play on both Extra and Core, I ask that you not register separately for Core right now. After Extra tryouts I'll make sure he or she gets on a Core team.
If you do not get invited to be on an Extra team, please register for Core before the June 30 deadline.
Referee requirement
Extra players in the 12U, 14U, and 17U divisions are required to take the referee training class and referee at least 5 Core games each season. Other regions in our area have had this requirement in place for years and have seen significant benefits. First of all, it makes Extra players much better players because they gain a deeper understanding of the game. Secondly, it supports our Core coaches as they struggle to find referees each week. (Don't let this requirement keep you from trying out. We will do everything possible to make this a good experience for our young referees.)
